Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, during a working visit to the United States, has asked the World Bank to provide a non-refundable flexible financing, needed for backing the residents on crises period, triggered by the war in Ukraine.   

At a today’s meeting with President of World Bank Group David Malpass, the PM discussed possibilities of allocating additional financing for the next year, of speeding up the implementation of projects in agriculture, energy sector and infrastructure, as well as the support Moldova still needs for the carrying out of structural reforms.   

The prime minister said that Moldova remained firmly committed in the process of reformation of the key sectors, despite all crises. To implement these reforms, it is important that the country gets access to more flexible financing instruments and the current projects should be carried out quicker, for the benefit of the people.  

„We undertake, in continuation, all necessary actions, so that this crisis, which is all over the world, hits our citizens to a less extent. We remain with the people on this difficult period and we rely on assistance in form of grants, in order to manage the risks triggered by external factors, such as the military conflict in Ukraine,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

At the same time, the prime minister appreciated the World Bank’s openness to contribute to the modernization and transformation of the priority sectors, referring to projects underway in the fields of health, education, agriculture and regional infrastructure. At the same time, according to PM, taking into account the current vulnerabilities in the energy situation in Moldova, the projects on energy interconnection and those meant to contribute to the improvement of the quality of thermal energy supply services become more and more important.     

The sides also discussed measures of diminishing the inflationist pressures, ensuring the food security, as well as the importance of facilitating exports to the EU market, in order to redirect the commercial exchanges hit.  

In the context, David Malpass said that the World Bank would stay a reliable partner for Moldova, with essential contributions to overcome the present difficulties, as well as to promote long-term reforms. On the next period, a new Strategy of Partnership with Moldova will be worked out.   

In the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita invited David Malpass to visit Moldova.   

PM Natalia Gavrilita on 14-21 July pays a working visit to the United States, where a meeting of government leaders, business and science people is held. The participants in the event discuss some of the most complex changes faced by the mankind at present.
