Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre from Balti to receive modern light, sound equipment
The Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre from the Balti city will receive on behalf of the cabinet a grant worth one million lei for the purchasing of modern light and sound equipment. Such investments will be made for the first time in the last 15 years. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita referred to the new procurement and actions due to be undertaken by the government to back the cultural sector during a visit to the Balti-based theatre.
The PM said that the next period would be one of investments and modernization and the authorities would further identify new resources, in order provide to the cultural institutions as many possibilities of development as possible.
„I am sure that the theatre has a great future, as it offers us what we are lacking more and more – human cohesion, direct contact and living emotion. The societies went through tens of forms of state’s organization, political ideologies, economic models; yet, in the last at least 2,500 years, namely the theatre has always been present in the public space with emotion, with humour, with drama, with life lessons. You have a huge role in the education, raising and comforting of the city residents, many of whom come to the theatre to get answers,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.
For his part, Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan said that, from now on, the theatres from Moldova would be backed. ‘’I have insisted and I will insist, in continuation, that the actors and stage managers should receive every needed support to stage new plays, to buy equipment, properties. Also, I am sure that we can help the theatres, including through the launch of projects through which we promote culture among young people. I want us to reach that level when the Balti theatre is appreciated and attended not only by the audience from northern Moldova, but also becomes an attraction even for tourists. The Balti city is much nearer to Iasi than to Chisinau. Why should we not have spectators from beyond the Prut river as well?’’ the culture minister said.
The entire cabinet of ministers made a tour of familiarization with the theatre’s building; afterwards, they watched the play, The Enigma of Theatre – a documentary about the golden generation of the Balti National Theatre.
