The problem of insufficient water supply and sewarage of the Moldovan localities was discussed today during a working meeting at the Government, chaired by Prime Minister, Pavel Filip. At present, only 53 per cent of Moldova's population is connected to the aqueduct with drinking water and technical water. Even less – about 23 per cent have access to sewerage networks.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip was worried about these figures, noting that it is unacceptable that in the 21st century people would not have access to quality drinking water. "When we talk about the three government priorities, including infrastructure, we mean not only road infrastructure but we also have access to water and sewage. Our task is that these services will reach every village in the country, every man," said Prime Minister.

Pavel Filip urged the industry to draw up a master plan for water supply and sewerage in the shortest possible time and inventory all water and sanitation networks. Also, Agency Apele Moldovei is to be reorganised, so that it is possible to centralise the services in such a way that the tariffs are accessible to citizens.

Currently in Moldova there are water supply systems in 52 municipalities and towns and 708 villages, which represent 45.3 per cent of the localities of Moldova.
