Moldovan leadership holds meeting
Today Prime Minister Ion Chicu participated in a joint meeting with President Igor Dodon and Speaker Zinaida Greceanii. They discussed the epidemiological situation and national economy.
Chicu said that last week there was a record number of Covid-19 contaminations, both in Moldova and in the world. The infection increase is caused by the resumption of economic activities and confirms an insufficient level of compliance with the requirements of social distancing and personal hygiene. We can no longer apply "state of emergency, stay at home" mechanism, because we do not want to block the economy. We risk entering another crisis, which means the impossibility of paying salaries and pensions. All rules for markets, shopping malls and other economic activities must be followed. Otherwise, they will be fined or closed", he said.
Epidemiological experts admit that this week the number of infections could reach 500-600 cases / day. The authorities are prepared to manage the situation and it has been ordered to deploy another two thousand beds in various medical institutions and Covid Center Moldexpo.
Chicu spoke about the state budget revenues in June 2020, which are slightly lower than those of June 2019. The evolution of GDP for the first quarter of 2020 on background of the epidemic is better than the GDP data for the 4th quarter of 2019.
Moldova has met conditions to get the second tranche of EU macro-financial assistance. "The law on the activity of NGOs was voted. We believe that Moldova has fulfilled the conditions, we are waiting for the reaction of the EU partners. Progress has been made in the negotiation on the 100 million euros of macro-financial assistance, announced a few months ago ", said Ion Chicu. This week, the premier will attend a meeting of Heads of State and Government of the Eastern Partnership member countries.
The premier concluded the statements with urge to the citizens to be responsible and to strictly observe the sanitary-epidemiological norms announced by the specialists.
