Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, on a working visit to Washington, has met Special Assistant to the President of the United States and Senior Director for Europe in the National Security Council Amanda Sloat. The discussions were focused on opportunities of deepening the political and security dialogue between Moldova and the USA, given that Moldova faces major challenges as a result of the war in Ukraine.

In this respect, the PM stressed the importance of the United States’ support in attenuating the economic impact of the security crisis in the region, as well as in the advancement of the democratic reforms, promoted by the Moldovan authorities. ‘’We rely on a cooperation with the USA, in order to enhance Moldova’s resilience, consolidate our institutional capacities and, in particular, manage the energy crisis. We are aware that Moldova is a small country; yet, we want to be a provider of security in this agitated region,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

At the same time, the prime minister emphasized that, despite the latest events, the key reforms would continue and Moldova remained firmly committed in its European integration: ‘’Our choice is the accession to EU and since the moment when we got the status of candidate country, we are even closer to this objective. Nevertheless, we need time to implement, including with the financial and strategic support of our partners, important reforms, with results expected by the people,’’ the prime minister noted.

In discussions, the sides welcomed the relaunch of the Moldova-USA strategic dialogue. In last April, three task forces assembled to plan joint actions in the fields of security, good governance, economy and energy system.
