27 March 2026, Chișinău - Michael McGrath, the European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, Rule of Law, and Consumer Protection, is in Chișinău during 26 – 27 March. At the Government, the European official met with Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov.

The discussions focused on the ongoing judicial reforms, the strengthening of the rule of law, and the next steps on Moldova’s European agenda.

’The visit comes at an important moment for us, as we have just concluded the first monitoring meetings on Chapters 23 and 24, areas that form the basis of the entire EU accession negotiation process. Without real progress in the justice system, anti-corruption, and fundamental rights, we cannot move forward on our European path,’ said Cristina Gherasimov.

This is Commissioner McGrath’s second visit to the Republic of Moldova.
