3 March 2026, Chișinău – Today marks four years since Moldova submitted its application to join the European Union. 

‘We have obtained candidate country status, we have organised a republican referendum and enshrined European Integration in the Constitution, we have completed the analysis of European legislation and the planning of reforms to be carried out through the adoption of the 2025–2029 National Programme for the EU Accession, and we have opened technical negotiations for half of the chapters. At the same time, we continue to improve our administrative capacity and demonstrate, day after day, a firm commitment to joining the free world’, said Cristina Gherasimov.

Deputy Prime Minister Gherasimov noted that the support of all 27 EU Member States and European institutions confirms that the Republic of Moldova is a serious partner, capable of delivering reforms and fulfilling its commitments.

’In the current international context, no country can face challenges alone. Belonging to a strong family, based on solidarity and mutual support, is a guarantee of stability and peace, especially for small countries like Moldova. We will continue to work with determination because Moldova can and deserves a better, more dignified, and more prosperous future’, said Cristina Gherasimov.

On 3 March 2022, the Republic of Moldova submitted its application for membership in the European Union. The document was signed by the President Maia Sandu, the Speaker of the Parliament Igor Grosu, and then-Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița.
