Lack of consensus in the Joint Control Commission on issues related to illegal checkpoints and force structures’ abuses in the Security Zone

The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova proposed several topics for the agenda of the Joint Control Commission meeting on November 12, 2020, specifically on the recent events from the Security Zone, related primarily to the presence of illegal checkpoints and abuses of the armed representatives of the force structures from the left bank of Nistru.
The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova is firmly convinced that the prerogative of the Commission is to eliminate any violations of the Security Zone regime, including cases of citizens’ abductions and impediment of free movement.
Unfortunately, the Transnistrian side once again blocked the discussions on the mentioned issues, and launched a media campaign to distort the real events that take place in the Security Zone.
Through an appeal to all components of the Joint Control Commission, the Delegation of the Republic of Moldova unveiled these intentions. "It is an attempt by the Transnistrian side to manipulate the public and to camouflage the abusive actions of the illegal force structures subordinated to Tiraspol", the appeal (Ru) reads.
Additionally, ascertaining a new attempt by Tiraspol exponents to premeditatedly distort the events that took place on November 1, the Delegation of the Republic of Moldova informed the members of the Joint Control Commission that all the cases are examined by the territorial Police in terms of the national legislation.
It was pointed out that on the same day the members of the Delegation of the Republic of Moldova who traveled to the Security Zone, identified an illegal mobile "border guard" checkpoint on the territory of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces station near Dubasari. Other representatives of the Transnistrian structures abusively stopped the transport means and checked citizens' documents near Corjova. Also, on November 1, between 9 am and 12 noon, an illegal "border guard" checkpoint, located near Bicioc village on the left bank of Nistru, stopped the access of transport means and pedestrians to Gura Bicului village, located on the right bank of the river.
It should be mentioned that on November 6 and 9, 2020, the military observers identified an illegal checkpoint at the entrance to Cremenciug and another one - on the segment between the Bender-Chisinau route and the Proteagailovca-Hirbovat road.
The increasing number of illegal checkpoints, development of infrastructure, increase of the staff and abusive expansion of their functions in the responsibility area of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces thwart the accomplishment by the Joint Control Commission of the tasks set out in the 1992 Agreement, as stated in the document (Ru) signed by the representatives of the Republic of Moldova to the Joint Control Commission.
