Today, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Oleg Serebrian, participated in the Roundtable presentation of the report "Human Rights in the Transnistrian Region of the Republic of Moldova - Retrospective of 2023," an event organized by the Promo-LEX Association.
During his intervention, Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian reiterated the willingness of national authorities to continue collaborating with civil society in identifying necessary solutions to eradicate human rights violations in the transnistrian region.
"The human rights situation in the left bank of the Nistru river remains dramatic; we have individuals illegally detained based on unclear criteria, blatant violations of the principle of free movement, restrictions on access to education in the Romanian language, and so on. We will continue to work towards improving the situation, but it is self-evident thatonly a definitive, political resolution of the Transnistrian conflict will lead to the resolution of the multiple human rights-related issues."
The Promo-LEX report includes a retrospective analysis of the situation regarding the most frequently violated rights and freedoms in the Transnistrian region, namely: the right to freedom and security, prohibition of torture, freedom of expression, freedom of movement, the right to education, and the right to property. The period covered in the report is January to November 2023.
