Working visit of the Deputy Prime Minister for reintegration of the Republic of Moldova to Georgia

On Monday, January 30, 2023, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian, on a working visit to Tbilisi, had a meeting with Ms. Tea Akhvlediani, Georgia's State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, with Mr. Zurab Azarashvili, Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the occupied territories, labor, health and social affairs of Georgia and with Mr. Tibor Kozma, head of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia.

 

The discussions with the officials from Tbilisi focused on bilateral cooperation relations, the agenda of reforms implemented by the authorities in Chisinau and Tbilisi, with the sustained efforts of the Republic of Moldova to settle the Transnistrian conflict peacefully and other aspects of mutual interest being reviewed.

 

Special attention was given to the regional security context and the management of current risks and vulnerabilities, especially related to the war in Ukraine and the support measures granted to Ukrainian refugees, as well as the need to continue the inter-institutional dialogue on issues related to the peaceful and sustainable settlement of conflicts on the territories of the Republic of Moldova and Georgia.

 

The Moldovan delegation, led by the Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian, visited Odzisi, in the vicinity of the "Contact Line" with the occupied/uncontrolled by Tbilisi territories, and became closely acquainted with the activity of the European Union Civilian Monitoring Mission in Georgia and other good practices in the field.

 

Chisinau also showed interest in the process of managing the problem of internally displaced persons from the occupied/uncontrolled territories of Georgia, accommodation practices, social policies/support programs applied by the Government towards them.

 

The sides agreed to continue the active interaction, with the realization of the exchange of good practices in the field of policies for the reintegration of uncontrolled territories and the identification of ways of mutual support in this regard.

Deputy Prime Minister Serebrian's visit to Tbilisi takes place at the invitation of Mrs. Tea Akhvlediani, Georgia's State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, on January 30-31. The delegation from Chisinau also includes the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ruslan Bolbocean and the Deputy Head of the Reintegration Policies Bureau Eugen Cara.
