Commentary concerning the initiative of Tiraspol to prosecute persons complaining about human rights violation in the Transnistrian region

We are alarmed and express deep concern about the intention of Tiraspol to enforce penal punishment to citizens who will file complaints to competent national institutions or in international courts of law reporting cases of abuse or breach of human rights, committed by the representatives of the structures from the Transnistrian region.
The said initiative is extremely dangerous and will contribute to the aggravation of an already complicated situation with regard to the respect for human rights in the administrative units from the left bank of Nistru river and Bender municipality. It will lead to a greater limitation of the right to legal defense, the right to petition, to physical and psychological integrity of the person, freedom of opinion and expression, freedom of gatherings and many other constitutional rights guaranteed by the international conventions.
We strongly condemn this provocative intention prone to stimulating persecutions with a political character and gravely endanger the fundamental human rights and freedoms, and we urge to renounce enforcing it, in order to avoid corresponding legal proceedings toward factors holding responsibility for such inadmissible abuses and intervene with dissuasive measures, within the working legislation.
At the stage of dialogue and preventing unwanted consequences, this message has been transmitted through the communication channel of the political representatives, requesting from Tiraspol to abstain from intentions that are inhuman and incompatible with the standards of the international law.
The actors of the ”5+2” negotiation format and the relevant international partners have been contacted with the appeal to use all available instruments of intervention in order to stop such illegal acts and avoid attempts to abusively violate universally guaranteed rights and freedoms of the residents from both banks of the Nistru River.
