Bender, December 23, 2021. - A working meeting of the Joint Control Commission was held in Bender.
The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova reiterated its proposal to include the issues regarding the presence of so-called "border guards" in the Security Zone and the development of an effective mechanism to monitor the situation in the Security Zone in case of its aggravation on the agenda of the Joint Control Commission. These issues are important in the context in which lately the “border guards”, ignoring the documents of the peacekeeping mission, intensify their illegal actions endangering the free movement and generating other violations of the rights of citizens.
During the debates on the draft of the agenda, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova also referred to the incident of December 2, when the "border guards" were discovered near Cocieri.
In a statement to all members of the JCC, the Moldovan delegation debunked false and provocative information released by Tiraspol to divert public opinion from the realities on the ground, to create artificial outbreaks of tension and to avoid solving the problems accumulated in the Security Zone. The statement highlighted the inadmissibility of distorting of the information regarding not only the Moldovan peacekeepers, but also the group of military observers by the Transnistrian exponents.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova drew the attention of the representatives of the JCC delegates from the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the OSCE Mission to Moldova to the fact that the failure to solve the issue of illegal actions of "border guards" in the Security Zone can provoke a new escalation of tension in the activity of the Joint Peaceekeeping Forces, Joint Military Command and the Joint Control Commission.
In order to avoid undesirable consequences, the Delegation of the Republic of Moldova called on all JCC participants to contribute to the resumption of a consistent dialogue according to the documents establishing the Security Zone regime and eliminating destructive approaches, manipulation attempts and confrontational actions.
No consensus was reached in the formation of the agenda during the meeting, and the meeting was not opened. Discussions will resume at a new working meeting of the Joint Control Commission next week.
