On July 8 and 9, in Bender, the members of the Joint Control Commission discussed about ensuring free movement and public order in the Security Zone in the context of the early parliamentary elections on July 11 this year.

The tactics chosen by some parties, by distorting the facts and tendentious interpretation of the acts of the peacekeeping operation, made it impossible to approve the agenda and to come up with a consensual decision.

The Commission did not reach a compromise for approving the agenda either for the ordinary or the emergency meeting, initiated by the representatives of the Russian Federation.

During the meeting, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova informed that the authorities will ensure public order through the territorial subdivisions of the General Police Inspectorate located in the Security Zone.

It should be noted that on July 6, the OSCE Mission to Moldova announced to the Joint Control Committee about the monitoring results of the situation in the Security Zone during June, confirming the deployment by Tiraspol of “representatives of the so-called frontier structure” in the proximity of the ferryboat station over Nistru in Slobozia locality, but also the constant presence of some concrete installations for restricting the access between Bender and Varnița localities.

In this context, the OSCE Mission to Moldova considered that such violations create impediments for the free movement of citizens.

During the working meeting, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova described as unacceptable the attempts to impose ultimatum for the activity of the Joint Control Commission, reiterated its call to eliminate the “representatives of the so-called frontier structure” representing the main factor of tension in the Security Zone and the basic impediment to ensure free movement of citizens on both banks of the Nistru river.

The position of the Republic of Moldova delegation in the Joint Control Commission continues to be based on the need to maintain stability and public order within the perimeter of responsibility of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, to ensure free movement and enforcement of other fundamental rights of citizens.
