At the weekly meeting of the members of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) on 4 March, 2021, the Delegation of the Republic of Moldova addressed again the issue of citizens abducted in Camenca by the representatives of the armed structures subordinated to Tiraspol.
The issue remains current since two of the citizens continue to be illegally detained, the calls of the constitutional authorities to release them are refused, and the militarized structures outside of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces’ control continue entering the Security Zone.
During the debates, the Tiraspol Delegation did not provide any explanation on the above, trying to insinuate that these issues do not fall within the Commission's remit.
The agenda proposed by the Delegation of the Republic of Moldova was rejected by the Transnistrian side, therefore it was not possible to open the meeting.
The systematic blocking of the Joint Control Commission’s activity by the Transnistrian Delegation for months in row prevents the examination of several important issues regarding the situation in the Security Zone and causes distrust in the efficiency of the JCC.
However, the Delegation of the Republic of Moldova will continue to promote on the JCC’s agenda the whole list of problems that have arisen artificially in the Security Zone due to the fact that the Transnistrian side is defying the basic documents of the peacekeeping operation.
The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova to the Joint Control Commission reiterates that the issue of human rights is fundamental and cannot be neglected within the peacekeeping mission mechanisms.
