The Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Cristina Lesnic, had an online meeting with the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, William Massolin, and discussed issues related to respect for human rights in the Republic of Moldova.
The perspectives of implementing confidence-building projects between the two banks of Nistru and organizing trainings for French language teachers from several high schools in October this year were also discussed.
A central topic of the discussion were individual cases of human rights violations in the Transnistrian region and identification of optimal solutions in solving them, with the involvement of the Council of Europe. The Deputy Prime Minister, Cristina Lesnic, made a review of the latest alarming evolutions on human rights during the COVID-19 pandemic, mentioning the need to ensure compliance with the international conventions to which Moldova is party.
The officials exchanged views on reactivating the mechanisms to ensure human rights, including in the Transnistrian region.
Another topic discussed was participation in the Steering Committee for monitoring the implementation of the 2017-2020 Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova.
The parties agreed to continue a close dialogue.
