Prime Minister Iurie Leanca welcomes the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and Turkey

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca today met Turkish Minister of Economic Affairs Nihat Zeybekci, on a visit to Moldov.

 

Leanca welcomed the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and Turkey in Chisinau today, and highlighted that this event was an encouraging factor in strengthening the bilateral economic ties. Leanca was confident that the agreement’s enforcement would lead to enhancing the trade exchanges between the two states and developing the mutually advantageous investments.

 

„This is a very important event for the development of the Moldovan-Turkish relations and a chance to advance towards consolidating the friendship ties and mutual support. At the same time, this agreement shows other partners of Moldova that the Moldova-EU Free Trade Agreement is not an obstacle to developing economic relations with other states,” Leanca said.

 

The prime minister stressed the role of the free trade agreement with Turkey, in the context of Moldova’s efforts to identify trade and investment opportunities, in the wake of the problems occurred in export of Moldovan goods to the eastern market.

 

Iurie Leanca congratulated Nihat Zeybekci and his colleagues on the investiture of the new Turkish government. At the same time, the prime minister conveyed assurances of highest consideration to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on latter’s victory in the presidential polls from 10 August 2014. Leanca underlined that Recep Tayyip Erdogan was expected to visit Moldova, as well as new Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who leads the government after he has held the post of foreign minister.

 

For his part, Nihat Zeybekci reconfirmed Turkey’s willingness to foster the bilateral dialogue in various sectors. The official also emphasised the interest of Turkish investors in carrying out new projects in Moldova, in such areas as: telecommunications, transport, infrastructure, health, etc. Nihat Zeybekci also underlined that Turkey would further support Moldova at international level.

 

The sides spoke out for bolstering the Moldovan-Turkish political dialogue, as well as expanding the cultural and humanitarian ties, stressing that a reach history and century-old traditions had been at their basis.
