The Transnistrian issue and the priorities of the Government in this area were on the agenda of the discussions between the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian and the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Yamada Yoichiro, who recently took office.
The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed the strong position of Chișinău on settling the Transnistrian conflict exclusively by peaceful and political means, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, and expressed gratitude to the Japanese authorities for their constant support of this approach on various platforms of international dialogue.
It was also noted that despite the lack of political settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, in the social and economic field the progress of the reintegration process is evident, taking into account that the vast majority of the inhabitants of the region possess the citizenship and identity documents of the Republic of Moldova, and the companies from the east of the country that carry out foreign commercial transactions are registered with the competent national authorities.
During the dialogue, Moldovan-Japanese cooperation relations in various spheres of common interest, including economy and academia, were highly appreciated, expressing openness to strengthening existing partnerships.
