Message from the Reintegration Policies Bureau on the occasion of International Human Rights Day

We mark today, December 10th, 2022, 74 years since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document that serves as a fundamental pillar for the values of freedom, democracy and human dignity, transposed into the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and the national regulatory framework.

This day reminds everyone that human rights are universal, indivisible, inalienable, interdependent and strongly interconnected.

This year, dramatically marked by the violent war in neighbouring Ukraine and its very serious consequences, has put more than ever before on the public agenda, in the sights of decision-makers and international partners, the need to pay maximum attention to the fundamental human rights and freedoms, efforts to restore/protect universally guaranteed and enshrined values.

In the context of new challenges and vulnerabilities, jointly with other states, the Republic of Moldova has had to adjust its prompt intervention measures and levers in order to optimally manage imminent risks and threats, avoid escalation situations, provide all forms of assistance available to refugees, persecuted persons and those whose rights have been violated.

During 2022, the Reintegration Policies Bureau, in collaboration with relevant national institutions, human rights promoters and concerned external partners, has undertaken increased and determined efforts to intervene with all possible/available support measures, on individual and resonant cases, using all existing dialogue platforms and the potential of international actors, in order to defend/restore fundamental human rights, protect democratic values, strengthen the rule of law, honour the positive obligations of the constitutional authorities towards its citizens throughout the Republic of Moldova.

We will continue to intensify efforts and improve intervention mechanisms to provide multidimensional support to people in need and those who require appropriate support, so as to improve the human rights situation and guarantee internationally recognised human rights instruments, including in localities within the country affected by the unsettled Transnistrian issue and outside the effective control of the authorities empowered by law.

International Human Rights Day has not only an anniversary or symbolic significance, but also serves as a good opportunity for each of us to reflect on the role we can play at home, in the community/society, at work, in the country, so as to bring added value and an active contribution in the process of respecting the norms of constitutional/international law, fundamental human and civil rights and freedoms.

Human rights and democratic values are the foundation of legality, equity, dignity, freedom, prosperity, peace and human harmony.
