15.12.2021, Chișinău – Discussions on a number of aspects which regard the Transnistrian issue have taken place during a meeting between the head of the Bureau for Policies of Reintegration Alin Gvidiani and the head of the OSCE Mission to the Republic of Moldova Claus Neukirch.

The Head of the Bureau thanked the OSCE for its productive contribution and facilitation of the process of finalizing and reaching of consensus on the text of the OSCE Ministerial Council Declaration on the Transnistrian settlement negotiation process approved on December 3 in Stockholm, Sweden. The document reconfirms the firm support for the settlement of the Transnistrian issue in the parameters of the sovereignty and territorial unity of the Republic of Moldova, within its borders recognized by the international community.

Full openness to have a constructive cooperation on the process of settlement under the auspices of the Polish Presidency of the OSCE in 2022 was mentioned, highlighting that viable priorities and goals of activity will be coordinated and outlined jointly with the authorities of the Republic of Moldova.

Moreover, it was communicated that the Moldovan side remains awaiting for new specific data from Tiraspol, which for unclear reasons has called off several meetings of the sectoral working groups proposed by Chisinau during this December, and hope has been expressed to have the meeting of the experts in education on December 17, as earlier agreed.

On a separate note, concerns were voiced regarding the recent behavior of Tiraspol, which bizarrely deviates from the established format of exchanging correspondence between the two banks of the river Nistru (currently possible only in a neutral form, at the level of the offices of political representatives in the process of negotiations regarding the Transnistrian settlement) and addresses national institutions directly, confusing them in this regard. A prompt intervention of the OSCE Mission was asked in order to convince Tiraspol to return to the right path, to return to the previously agreed communication platforms and to have a respectful attitude toward officials and public authorities of the Republic of Moldova.
