Event dedicated to the 29th anniversary from establishment of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces

A ceremony dedicated to the 29th anniversary from the deployment of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces in the Security Zone of the Republic of Moldova was held in Bender.

 

The co-chairs of the Joint Control Commission, representatives of Ukraine and the OSCE Mission to Moldova came with messages for military of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces.

 

In his speech, the head of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova expressed his appreciation and respect for the peacekeepers who have honorably fulfilled their duty to contribute to the ceasefire in the conflict zone, to conciliation and trust between both banks of the Nistru river.

 

At the same time, Ion Solonenco regretfully underlined the presence of tension in the Security Zone, but expressed conviction that these can be overcome by unconditionally complying with the documents of peacekeeping operations on the Nistru river.

 

During this festive event, peacekeepers from the National Army of the Republic of Moldova were decorated with distinctions and honorary diplomas for professionalism, high level of training and impeccable execution of the service.

 

The Joint Peacekeeping Forces were established under the provisions of the Agreement on the Principles for a Peaceful Settlement of the Armed Conflict in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, signed on July 21, 1992, and are empowered to monitor the situation for maintaining peace and stability in the Security Zone.

 

Currently, 1051 soldiers from the Republic of Moldova, Russian Federation, Ukraine and the left bank of the Nistru are part of the peacekeeping operation, according to the list.
