22.03.2021, Chisinau – An online consultation meeting took place between the Deputy Prime Minister, Olga Cebotari, and the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement, Thomas Mayr-Harting.

 

Discussions between the two officials focused on the dialogue dynamics between Chisinau and Tiraspol. It was highlighted that this year two meetings of the political representatives and six meetings of the sectoral working groups already took place, including two on transportation and two in healthcare issues. The need to unblock the activity of the Joint Control Commission in order to solve the most acute problems in the Security Zone was also mentioned.

 

The Deputy Prime Minister reminded that the implementation of measures to effectively fight the COVID-19 infection on both banks of Nistru is a priority this year. She also mentioned that at the initiative of the Moldovan side, together with the WHO, two meetings of the health experts were organized as to coordinate the immunization process, and three trainings for the medical staff on the use of vaccines and the protocol for clinical management of the infection cases. Part of the vaccine doses delivered for the Republic of Moldova are transferred to hospitals and health centers from the region.

 

A distinct attention was paid to the auto transport sector, being mentioned the meetings of the profile experts, the measures and efforts undertaken for the efficient functionality of the Vehicle Registration Points from Tiraspol and Rybnița, and the organization of the information campaign for the citizens from the Transnistrian region regarding rules for participating in international road traffic.

 

It was reiterated that respect for human rights in the Transnistrian region and restoration of free movement to/from the eastern districts of the country are key issues for the Government of the Republic of Moldova. Mobilization of the OSCE-led efforts to return to international standards was also urged.

 

Regarding issues of the Berlin Plus Package, the Moldovan side emphasized the need to return to the situation before the pandemic and subsequently, advance the processes while keeping all the dialog formats active, including planning in the near future of the mediators’ and observers’ visit to the Republic of Moldova and organization of the "5+2" negotiations round.

 

In the end, the firm conviction was expressed that through joint efforts it will be possible to maintain a productive dialogue that would boost new progress in the Transnistrian settlement negotiations.
