An extraordinary meeting of the Joint Control Commission to solve some organizational issues that could not be postponed was held on 10 December, 2020 in Bender.
Given the expiration of the term of mission, the replacement by rotation of 3 military observers delegated by Ukraine was approved. Their mandate is to monitor the situation and document violations of the established Security Zone regime, jointly with the military observers from the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation and the Transnistrian region.
Also, new experts from the Delegation of the Republic of Moldova, appointed by the Government on 9 December, were presented and entered their positions.
The members of the Joint Control Commission took note of the report presented by the Joint Military Command on the situation in the Security Zone between 25 November and 1 December, 2020.
The previous regular meeting of the Joint Control Commission failed again because the Transnistrian side rejected the inclusion on the official agenda of issues related to the presence of illegal checkpoints and abduction of citizens by the so-called "mgb" from the region.
The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova issued a statement (Ru) revealing the continuing tensions in the Security Zone and the deliberate blocking of the Joint Control Commission’s activity by the Tiraspol representatives. Through their provocative actions and counterproductive position, they reject any compromise solution that could bring the Joint Control Commission back into the regulatory activity.
The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and urged the members of the Joint Control Commission to give fair appreciation to the destructive actions of the Transnistrian side, that affect the peaceful process on the Nistru river under the principles established in the Agreement of 21 July, 1992.
