26.03.2021, Chisinau – The experts of the working group for civil status documents and population documentation from Chisinau and Tiraspol held an online meeting, which was organized with the support of the OSCE Mission to Moldova and with the participation of the 5+2 representatives.
The discussions focused on the issues regarding provision of civil status services to the inhabitants from the left bank of Nistru and Bender municipality. It was pointed out that last year a large number of citizens reported that they faced artificial impediments conditioned by Tiraspol’s abusive restriction on the free movement, when claiming their rights on registration with the national model documents.
The Moldovan side also noted the need to identify criteria for confirming the information about births and deaths in the Transnistrian region, which would facilitate the process of documenting the inhabitants from the region and would help update the state population register with valid data.
The parties exchanged views on the above-mentioned issues and Chisinau’s representatives reiterated the importance of respecting the rights and legitimate interests of citizens, especially the requirements on protection of personal data. The date of the next meeting will be set out in a working manner.
