The situation in the Security Zone and the functionality of the peacekeeping mechanism were on the agenda of the Joint Control Commission meeting which took place on February 3 in Bender.

The Commission approved the report of the Joint Military Command for the period January 26-February 1, appointed two new military observers from the Republic of Moldova, and ordered the convening of the working groups on technical issues on February 15.

Information on the lack of active cases of Covid-19 in the units of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces was noted and further measures to prevent infections among the military personnel were requested.

Regarding the training of military contingents, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova expressed its position that they should be organized in places of permanent deployment or training centers outside the Security Zone and reiterated the proposal to establish the elaboration of regulations in this regard as a task of the Joint Military Command.

On the same topic, the representatives of the OSCE Mission requested from the sides to be informed in advance on the planned trainings, expressing their conviction that this could defuse the situation and ensure the transparency of specific activities in the Security Zone.

The OSCE Mission to Moldova also reported that during the Security Zone monitoring in January 2022 it noted that the line of reinforced concrete obstacles between the localities Bender and Varnița continues to be maintained by Transnistrian structures and represents an obstacle to free movement of citizens.

The next meeting of the Joint Control Commission has been programmed for 10 february.
