Turkish partners set to double quota of bilateral trade with Moldova

Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet today met representatives of the Turkonfed confederation, the biggest organisation of businessmen from Turkey. Attending the meeting also was Turkish Ambassador to Moldova Mehmet Selim Kartal.

 

The officials referred to the economic ties between Moldova and Turkey, prospects of expanding bilateral cooperation and development of new mutually advantageous partnerships.

 

Strelet highlighted that the role of foreign investors, including Turkish ones, was very important for the economic development of Moldova, especially in this complicated period for the country. The prime minister spoke out for boosting bilateral cooperation and urged business people to turn to good account opportunities provided by Moldova in the economic sector. „The government submitted to parliament the Free Trade Agreement with Turkey for ratification, that will certainly contribute to developing the bilateral economic ties. We are also expecting this to happen on behalf of Turkey's too soon as possible,” Strelet said.

 

Strelet voiced the openness of government for an efficient dialogue with Turkish investors and highlighted a string of areas where successful partnerships may be developed, such as restoration and construction of roads and railways, as well as turning agriculture into a developed branch. „We will put emphasis on regions' development and companies making investments in this filed, will enjoy the support of state, by various benefits and facilities to develop the businesses,” Strelet said.

 

Valeriu Strelet urged Turkish investors to develop more businesses in the Gagauz region. In this context, the prime minister invited the guests to a business forum due in Comrat in next November.

 

On the other hand, the Turkish officials showed interest in enhancing bilateral ties and developing the potential to increase trade and investments relationships. „Presently, the bilateral trade is of about 500 million dollars. Our goal is to increase the bilateral trade volume up to 1 billion dollars and Turkey ranking among the first three partner countries of Moldova in the economic sector,” President of Turkonfed Confederation Tarkan Kadooglu said.

 

Mehmet Selim Kartal underlined that this visit was a sign of friendship, which showed Turkey's wish to help Moldova in order to implement development goals.

 

The aforementioned confederation is the biggest organisation of business people of Turkey. It includes 23 federations, 150 associations and over 30,000 trading companies.
