Sweden Supports Moldova's European Integration Aspirations

29th May 2024, Chisinau - On Tuesday, 28 June, Ghenadie Marian, Head of the Bureau for European Integration (BEI), met with a delegation of experts from the National Trade Council (NTC) of Sweden. The delegation was led by Sara Sandelius, Deputy Director of the Department for Sustainability and Development Cooperation, and Cyrille Hugon, Internal Market Advisor, Department for Internal Market.

 

The Head of the BEI provided the Swedish delegation with an overview of the bureau's role and priorities, the national coordination mechanism for Moldova's EU accession process, ongoing activities, and the needs of the Working Groups in preparation for the opening of accession negotiations.

 

Ghenadie Marian expressed gratitude to the Swedish delegation for their political support in Moldova's European integration process, including Sweden's favourable stance on holding the Moldova-EU Intergovernmental Conference during the Belgian Presidency of the EU Council. He also acknowledged the productive cooperation between the NTC and the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitisation (MDED) aimed at harmonising national legislation with the EU trade-related acquis and enhancing institutional capacities for Moldova's accelerated integration into the EU single market.

 

The Swedish representatives reaffirmed Sweden's ongoing commitment to support the Republic of Moldova in its European integration aspirations and efforts. They highlighted the focus on Moldova within the framework of the Swedish Regional Development Strategy, the cooperation of the Trade Academy Council with Moldovan public institutions, and the assistance provided to the Moldovan private sector, particularly in the areas of exports to the European market and the IT sector.
