On December 10, on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, we reaffirmed our unwavering commitment to the promotion and defense of fundamental human rights. On this important day, we reflected on the progress made, but also on the persistent challenges facing communities, including those in the Transnistrian region, regarding the respect for human rights.
With regret, we underline our concern regarding the severe and systematic violations of human rights taking place in the Transnistrian region as a result of abuses committed by representatives of unconstitutional structures.
Despite the efforts of state authorities and repeated calls to Tiraspol to abandon any measures that violate human rights and eliminate harmful practices, we observe with alarm the persistence of actions negatively affecting the residents of this region.
We solemnly emphasize the imperative of respecting fundamental human rights, including the right to freedom, the right to life, freedom of movement, freedom of expression, freedom of association, the right to a fair trial, the right to education, etc.
We hereby demand the immediate and unconditional release of individuals illegally detained by structures operating outside the national legal framework.
Together with all state institutions, we must take concrete measures to improve the human rights situation and ensure the respect for fundamental democratic principles in the Transnistrian region, through the adoption of legislative measures and the individual sanctioning of persons responsible for serious human rights abuses.
International Human Rights Day is an important occasion to reaffirm our strong commitment to human rights and to support residents who continue to defend these fundamental rights. In these extensive processes, we highlight the ongoing dialogue with civil society regarding the monitoring of human rights in the left bank of the Nistru river and the city of Bender, as well as the need for more intense mobilization of support from external partners, given that the Republic of Moldova does not have effective control over the Transnistrian region.
Through this statement, we express our solidarity with all those affected by human rights violations and reaffirm our determination to contribute to creating a future in which all people live in dignity and freedom.
