
The sides tackled aspects on the development of the Moldovan-Lithuanian relations, priority subjects on the bilateral agenda, Moldova’s European integration and the regional situation. The officials highlighted the dynamic and constructive character of the Lithuania-Moldova ties, positive tendency of fostering the social, political, trade, economic and humanitarian relationships.
Iurie Leanca welcomed the new ambassador of Lithuania in Moldova and wished him much success in his work. At the same time, the prime minister confirmed Moldova’s interest in taking over the experience of Lithuania in European integration and stressed the importance that the two states back each other on the international stage.
“Lithuania is a good friend of Moldova. There are many sectors in which we could quite efficiently cooperate, first of all, by taking over the experience and good practices of the Lithuanian partners in promoting reforms and enforcing European standards for Moldova’s modernisation,” Iurie Leanca said.
For his part, Rimantas Latakas reiterated Lithuania’s willingness to support Moldova’s European integration. He said the Vilnius government spoke out for deepening the Moldovan-Lithuanian dialogue and developing a lasting partnership with Moldova. “I perfectly understand the situation in Moldova. Ten years ago, our country covered the same way and there were more debates in the society on the need to join the European Union. Presently, we may affirm with certainty that Lithuania’s choice was correct!”, Rimantas Latakas said.
The Lithuanian diplomat specified that, during his mandate, he would continue the processes started by his predecessor in Moldova, and would focus on creating conditions for boosting the Moldovan-Lithuanian investment projects.
Rimantas Latakas was accredited as Ambassador of Lithuania to Moldova starting from 20 August 2014.
