The prime minister joined the U.S. Ambassador to Moldova William H. Moser and the cyclists at the race organised by the embassy of the United States – the country which reconstructed the highway Sarateni-Soroca.

“This is a fantastic event. We agreed with the national team to train during winter, in order to repeat such races on other roads and also organise international races till next spring. By this race, we had occasion to see not only how good the road is, but also how sound the cycling is. We should create the needed infrastructure for cycling. A good road means a sound lifestyle as well,” Prime Minister Iurie Leanca.

For his part, U.S. Ambassador William Moser said: “It was superb! This road proves that our nations can do nice things together. On behalf of the American people, I want to say that this road is meant also for trainings for professional cyclists.”.

One hundred cyclists participated in the race in all, of whom almost half are professionals. All participants received gifts from organisers each, and the first six are cyclists from the categories of cadets, juniors and seniors were awarded prizes.

A truck loaded with Moldovan apples meant for export was moving nearby the cyclists. And this given that the good quality of the road helps maintain the quality of the carried fruits and vegetables.

The Sarateni-Soroca highway was reconstructed from the U.S. Government’s funds within the Compact programme.
