Prime Minister Dorin Recean's Address Regarding the Situation in the Transnistrian Region of the Republic of Moldova

Dear fellow citizens, including those living in the Transnistrian region,
I personally and the entire Government of the Republic of Moldova are deeply concerned that over three hundred thousand people on the left bank of the Dniester, our brothers and sisters, are forced to live in unbearable conditions, in cold and darkness. We understand and share your frustration and pain. We sincerely want you to have light and heating in your homes.
We are ready to do everything possible to achieve this. Right now, there are several ways to ensure heating in the homes of the Transnistrian region. Gazprom could resume direct supplies under the existing contract, gas could be purchased specifically for the region, or other lawful solutions could be explored. Any decision must be transparent and clear. We cannot accept murky criminal gas supply schemes aimed at destabilizing Moldova.
The Government of Moldova wants the transnistrian region to have gas. But the Kremlin is not looking to resume gas supplies; instead, it aims to sow division in Moldova, to turn us against one another. It seeks to fuel resentment between those on the right bank and those on the left bank, pushing us to . blame each other instead of seeing the truth: the suffering of the people rests on the Kremlin’s conscience.
The Kremlin has never cared, and does not care, about the people living in Moldova, including in the transnistrian region. Not for a second did they consider their fate when they cut off gas and heating in the middle of winter, pushing the region to the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe. Russia plans to use human suffering as a tool for sowing discord. The Kremlin’s policy is utterly cynical – creating chaos in all Moldova
Destabilisation is not in the interest of people on either the left or right bank of the Nistru. Destabilisation serves only Russia. These plans are doomed to fail. The Kremlin will once again miscalculate in its cynical strategies. The Government of Moldova has done and will continue to do everything possible to maintain peace and harmony in the country – on both banks.
We are actively seeking solutions and stand ready to provide all possible support to the residents of the left bank – to the people, not the so-called leaders. I am confident that the wisdom and unity of the people will prevail over cynicism, geopolitical aggression, and disregard for human lives.
