New modern road inaugurated in central Moldova village

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and U.S. Ambassador to Moldova William Moser today attended the inauguration of access ways to a gymnasium from the Tintareni village, central Telenesti district. The construction works included modern pavements, access roads from highway to school and paving the gymnasium’s yard.

Thus, a pavement of about 1,800 metres was constructed between the Tintareni and Codru Nou villages, to allow safe movement of 49 children from Codru Nou, who study at Tintareni. So far, they have moved on the footway. As many as 223 pupils learn at the Tintareni gymnasium.

After inspecting the repair works, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said that such achievements changed the villages’ look. “I walked through the freshly paved yard of the gymnasium, visited the canteen and eating house, restored with the help of the Peace Corps volunteers, I saw the paved sidewalk linking the Codru Nou settlement to Tintareni, and on which children from the neighbouring village are coming to school each morning. And I want to affirm that my heart was filled with happiness and optimism,” the prime minister said.

Iurie Leanca thanked the United States for the support provided to modernise Moldova. Leanca also referred to the fact that the government had ruled to pay increased attention to the intra-village access ways in 2014, besides restoration of national roads or the ones between settlements. This year alone, 400 million has been earmarked to renovate intra-village roads from 700 settlements.

For his part, Ambassador William H. Moser specified that the construction works from Tintareni were additional to those on restoring the Sarateni-Soroca highway. “Three years ago, this place did not look as it is at present in the least degree. Presently, we see a modern settlement. I am proud that you have cooperated with us, with the American people, in order to carry this project through. I have a message for the pupils – to move only on sidewalks. This is for your security.”.

At the event, the pupils were given reflectors.

Infrastructure units with social impact for communities have been constructed in all the 14 settlements placed along the Sarateni-Soroca highway, in order to improve the residents’ access to schools, kindergartens, medical centres, libraries, public parkings, etc. About 14 km of local roads were reconstructed within the Compact Programme, for which about six million dollars was allocated.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca is on a working visit to the Telenesti district today.
