Moldovan Prime minister attends inauguration of Maria Biesu International Opera and Ballet Festival

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca today attended the inauguration of the Maria Biesu International Opera and Ballet Festival - one of the most prestigious cultural events in Moldova.

 

"Thanks to this festival, our capital aligns with the largest capitals of the world and this is due to this festival - with a series of high prestige and great value opera and ballet performances –Chisinau becomes a real capital of lyrical music and choreographic art, "said the prime minister at the opening of the event.

 

The prime minister assured that the government would continue to support this prestigious festival. "I am very happy that thanks to this festival, Chisinau, at least for a period of ten days, is part of the European and international music and art circuit. This year, the festival goes beyond Moldova’s geographical limits”, said Iurie Leanca.

 

The twelfth edition of the Maria Biesu International Opera and Ballet Festival tonight debuted with one of the most popular creations of universal lyrical repertoire, "La Traviata" by Giuseppe Verdi.

 

The current edition of the festival is held under Prime Minister Iurie Leanca’s patronage and is organised by the Culture Ministry, the Maria Biesu National Theatre of Opera and Ballet and the Musicians’ Union of Moldova. The programme includes eight performances - five operas and three ballets, with the participation of great virtuosi from France, Spain, Germany, Romania, Russia, Georgia, Belarus, Ukraine, and other countries, as well as Moldovan artists.

 

The festival will end on 14 September.
