Moldovan premier meets representatives of American Jewish Committee

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca today met a delegation of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), led by Stanley M. Bergman. The sides addressed the setting of a partnership, especially in the social and business area.  

 

AJC President Stanley M. Bergman welcomed the progress recorded by Moldova on its European path and thanked the Moldovan authorities for the support showed to the Jewish community and Israel. „We will be happy to back you when you need it,” Bergman said.

 

„Moldova has friendship ties with Israel, which is a positive signal for the entire Jewish community. We are here, in order to show our support for Moldova and its people,” Executive Director of American Jewish Committee David Harris said.

 

Iurie Leanca spoke about the role of the Jewish community in Moldova along the history. Leanca praised the Committee’s interest in providing support to Moldova, especially, the social and economic sectors.

 

The officials also approached Moldova’s European agenda, which included the implementation of the provisions of the Association Agreement and creation of the Free Trade Area, reforms carried out, measures taken to fight against corruption, as well as the regional situation.

 

The representatives of the American Jewish Committee came to Chisinau, in order to sign an unprecedented agreement with the Moldovan Jewish Community, as well as to set eventual cooperation ties with the Moldovan authorities. The delegation is made up of representatives of the juridical, financial and banking, health protection sectors, etc.

 

The American Jewish Committee is an organisation that promotes human rights and democratic values, and backs the Jewish Diaspora’s organisations in more countries.
