Moldovan PM hands battle flag to servicemen departing to peacekeeping mission in Kosovo

Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici today participated in a ceremony dedicated to departure of 41 soldiers from the National Army to peacekeeping operation KFOR in Kosovo. 

 

The contingent is made up of a platoon of 33 soldiers, meant for security missions and guarding military objectives, a team of sappers composed of seven soldiers and a staff officer.

 

The premier wished them every success. "Presence of Moldovan servicemen within the multinational exercises and peacekeeping operations is a pride for Moldova. I wish you to have a successful mission. Come back home with new experience, but not the least, with the sense of fulfilled duty", he said.

 

Gaburici conveyed a message to military families. "I wish you to have the power of waiting", he said.

 

Major, head of KFOR-3 contingent Ianac Deli noted that the servicemen had been selected on a contest basis. "We promise that being away from home, we will be messengers of peace and will hold Moldova's flag with pride and honor", he said.

 

At the end, the premier handed the battle flag to servicemen and talked to their families.

 

Attending the event were US Ambassador James Pettit, Italian Ambassador Enrico Nunziata, representatives of civil and military diplomatic staff, as well as families of officers and noncommissioned officers detached to the operation.

 

The 41 servicemen will operate during six months in Camp Vilaggio Italy, deployed in Pech settlement, Kosovo. The decision to detach the National Army's servicemen to the KFOR mission was approved by the parliament on 1 November 2013. The first contingent of the National Army was detached to the KFOR mission on 8 March 2014.
