Moldovan cabinet joins agriculture solidarity campaign

Moldovan cabinet joins agriculture solidarity campaign

The present edition presents a photo gallery with Prime Minister Leanca and the ministers who convey messages of encouragement for farmers.

"We are going through a difficult period, yet I am sure that, by showing solidarity and unity, we will overcome the problems. We will return to the Eastern market and we will conquer the Western one as well. The unprecedented openness of the European Union’s market for Moldovan goods starting from 1 September gives us the chance to assert ourselves as a serious and trustworthy producer for the EU consumer – we just have to be persevering and not give up. In fact, no one doubts the taste and quality of our fruits and vegetables - and I think this will prevail over political interests," said Iurie Leanca in his message.

The tenth issue of the magazine also includes a report about Victor Gutu, a farmer from Soroca, which contains video images too. The farmer grows cereal, fruits and vegetables, as well as a beautiful walnut orchard on the eight thousand acres he owns. Nutmeg is sold in Spain and Iraq, where it is used to make sweets. Yet, Victor Gutu is convinced that he will not stop here, because, he says, all that grows on walnut trees - leaves, bark, branches, and especially wood - brings profit.

Similarly, in an interview with Deputy Economics Minister Octavian Calmic, one may find answer to the question: What are the chances to overcome the problem of Russian sanctions and when will this happen? At the same time, the official said that denouncing the Association Agreement would mean serious consequences, as this would affect at least 50 per cent of Moldova’s foreign trade. This would also automatically mean introduction of customs duties on Moldovan products, given that many industries are already dependent on the European market: sugar, textiles, producing spare parts for vehicles.

The Infogov magazine is edited online by the government’s communication and media relations department.
