Prime Minister Iurie Leanca had a phone conversation with Vice President of the United States Joe Biden this evening. They discussed the bilateral strategic dialogue, 30 November parliamentary elections and regional challenges.

Leanca stressed the dynamism of bilateral ties between Moldova and the USA, which were on the rise every year.

“Washington has always helped us by numerous programmes offered to young people and professionals from different areas of activity to learn rules of democracy and to build rule of law state. Also, we benefitted from the USA’s support for solving economic, social and infrastructure issues from Moldova, including national projects, as well as the ones on road repair or provision with modern equipment of the state institutions”, he said.

In the context, Leanca informed Biden that the Sarateni-Soroca highway would be inaugurated on 16 October.

As regards the 30 November parliamentary election, Leanca expressed confidence that Moldova would opt for the European development vector.

At the same time, Leanca thanked Biden for the support provided in Moldova’s European integration path, by backing the key-reforms on the country’s modernization.

Biden encouraged the Moldovan authorities to continue efforts in transforming the state institutions and society. Also, he voiced hope that the polls would be free and fair, Moldova asserting itself as a state that had embraced democratic values.

Leanca and Biden met in Washington on 3 March within a meeting with US President Barack Obama.
