Moldova, Germany to boost cooperation in security, human rights

Prime Minister Leanca today met the representatives of the German Bundestag. The discussion focused on the Moldovan-German cooperation in areas such as protecting human rights, security, combating transnational crime and human trafficking.

The prime minister thanked Germany for its constant support offered to Moldova. Iurie Leanca appreciated the German Bundestag delegation’s visit as a sign of solidarity and support in a critical time for Moldova.

"The government’s main objective is the continuation of reforms and modernisation of the country, and I am convinced that only with the support of our partners and friends will we overcome the problems we are facing due to internal and external pressures. Germany is a friend of Moldova and the visit of such an important delegation to Chisinau represents an expression of this attitude towards Moldova", said the prime minister.

For his part, Fritz Felgentreu, a member of the Defence Committee of the German Bundestag, said that representatives of all parliamentary factions were part of the delegation, a fact confirming that Germany was on Moldova’s side in these difficult times.

The German officials said that during their five-day visit they would carry out discussions including with representatives of Romania, Bulgaria and other countries in the region. The delegation’s members intend to address topics such as the fight against organised crime and human trafficking, human rights and the situation of ethnic minorities. Particular attention will be paid to Germany’s support measures for the efforts these countries’ authorities are undertaking to improve the situation in the areas.

The sides highlighted the upward dynamic nature of the Moldovan-German relations and advocated the continuation and amplification of this important partnership for the future relation between the two countries.
