Moldova to establish bilateral ties with Iraq

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca today had a meeting with Ambassador of Iraq to Romania Omer Berzinji. The sides declared for the development of the Moldovan-Iraqi dialogue: setting the diplomatic relations between the two countries, creating the legal framework of the bilateral ties, as well as fostering the trade and economic relationships.

Leanca welcomed the visit by the Iraqi ambassador to Moldova, and highlighted the need to establish diplomatic relations between the two states.

“In a global world, the distance has no importance whatsoever. I am sure that we have the necessary pre-requisites to lay the foundation of mutually advantageous relations in different fields, including in the trade and economic ones,” the prime minister said.

For his part, the ambassador said he would do his utmost to develop the Moldovan-Iraqi dialogue.

The sides discussed possibilities to lay the foundations of an exchange of economic missions.

At the same time, the sides discussed possibility for Omer Berzinji to be appointed as non-resident ambassador of Iraq to Moldova.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said he watched the developments in Iraq and welcomed the formation of a new government in Baghdad.

Omer Berzinji is the first Iraqi diplomat to pay an official visit to Moldova.
