Meetings of Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian in Berlin with the Chairman of the Munich Security Conference, officials of the German Bundestag and German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian had a series of meetings in Berlin, during September 26-28, 2022, with the officials of the German federal Executive and Legislature, including the Chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Ambassador Christoph Heusgen; Chief Executive of the Social Democratic Party  within the Bundestag Achim Post; President of the German-Moldovan Forum, member of the Bundestag Johannes Schraps; Deputy-leader of the Security and Defense Committee of the Bundestag Gabrielle Heinrich; members of the Bundestag Knut Abraham (UCD), Wolfgang Hellmich (SDP), Fabian Funke (SDP), Merle Spellberg (PVG), Aniko Glogowski-Merten (FDP); Ambassador Matthias Lüttenberg, Director for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia Directorate of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the FRG, etc.

 

 The officials referred to the good bilateral cooperation relations and the need to develop them on the governmental and parliamentary level, the openness of the German authorities to offer the necessary expertise and assistance in advancing the Republic of Moldova on the European integration agenda, synchronizing the parallel promotion of this objective with the aim of country’s reintegration, and improving the human rights situation in the eastern districts of the country.

 

Attention was paid to the regional security context, the management of current risks and vulnerabilities, the need to strengthen mutual support efforts in order to generate an atmosphere of security, stability, peace, and prosperity.

 

In a particular focus were the Transnistrian issue, the dynamics of the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol, the evolution of the situation in the Transnistrian region and the current challenges, the measures taken by Chisinau to maintain a constructive interaction in a normal atmosphere and to solve the problems of the inhabitants from the eastern districts of the country, of the farmers from Dubasari district, of the Latin-script educational institutions, to ensure the observance of the fundamental human rights. 

 

The firm commitment of the authorities from Chisinau was reiterated for achieving a settlement of the Transnistrian issue exclusively through peaceful, political, diplomatic means and through negotiations, with the increased role of the European Union as an important actor that can boost this process on many aspects.

 

Also, the benefits of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Zone between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union were highlighted for the population and economic agents from the Transnistrian region who perform most external commercial-economic operations with the European Union member-states, based on the permissive documents issued by the competent national authorities.
