Meeting of the Joint Control Commission blocked by Tiraspol representatives

On 24 June, the JCC Delegations met in Bender to discuss issues occurring in the Security Zone. The regular weekly meeting was to be chaired by the representatives of the Russian Federation.
At the beginning of the meeting there should have been debates regarding the situation that occurred on the afternoon of 23 June at one of the Transnistrian structures’ checkpoints, located illegally at the entrance to Bender from Varnita village.
The representatives of Tiraspol requested in an ultimate manner the examination of this violation. The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova insisted that the military observers travel to the spot for regulatory documentation of the current situation, and that the subject be discussed, along with other issues of high interest, at the regular meeting of the Joint Control Commission, according to its activity regulation.
Dissatisfied with the fact that their ultimate demands were not accepted, the representatives of Tiraspol left the negotiating room. As a result, the regular meeting of the Joint Control Commission was compromised.
The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova disapproves the attempts of the Transnistrian side to impose unilateral categorical conditions on the activity of the Joint Control Commission.
The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova to the Joint Control Commission reiterates its position based on the need to maintain stability and public order in the Security Zone, eliminate any tensions, ensure free movement and respect the fundamental rights of citizens.
