The meeting of the environmental experts was held for the 2nd time this year

A new meeting of environmental protection experts from the both banks of the Nistru river was held today November 1st, 2022, at the headquarters of the OSCE Mission in Tiraspol and was attended by representatives of observers and mediators of the ‘5+2’ negotiation format.
Several current issues were included on the agenda of the Sectoral Working Groups and namely: management of the Nistru river basin, increasing the dialogue efficiency between Chisinau and Tiraspol, exchange of information on environment monitoring and other topics related to the management of the sectors for which these are responsible.
Special attention was paid to the issues related to combating poaching and illegal fishing in the Nistru river basin, coordination of prohibition period during natural breeding of hydrobionts, etc. effective measures for the protection of the river’s biodiversity.
Also, Chisinau reiterated the need to ensure the free access of representatives of the State Hydrometeorological Service to the hydrometric stations located in the Transnistrian region in order to monitor the hydrological regime of the surface waters of the Nistru River, as well as to ensure the free movement of environmental protection inspectors in order to carry out the necessary controls of companies from the region that request permissive documents in this regard.
Also, the experts reiterated the need to ensure a dynamic activity within the sectoral Working Groups and the achievement, in the established manner, of commitments assumed in the process of negotiations regarding the Transnistrian settlement.
