Meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Trasnistrian settlement, Thomas Mayr-Harting

The Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian has had a meeting with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Trasnistrian settlement, Thomas Mayr-Harting, who conducts a working visit in the Republic of Moldova.

 

The officials exchanged opinions on the evolutions in the settlement process, the dynamic of the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol, the current problems on the agenda, the timetable of planned activities for the current year and potential steps to be taken in the following period.

 

The chief negotiator from Chisinau has stressed the availability to relaunch the dialogue at the level of the political representatives and sectoral working groups, as well as the need to create a favorable ground for calling a new round of the ”5+2” negotiation format and for organizing the next Bavarian conference to promote confidence building measures.

 

The Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian has highlighted that efforts will be made to ensure the continuity of implementing commitments contained in the ”Berlin+” package. Also, ensuring fundamental human rights in the Transnistrian region and renouncing unilateral actions against farmers who work their lands situated beyond the Camenca-Tiraspol road remain priorities with increased attention, as well as eliminating all obstacles for the free circulation, the proper running of the educational process in Romanian teaching schools and providing them with adequate premises etc.

 

The commitment of the Moldovan authorities to reach a comprehensive, peaceful and sustainable settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, based on respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, within its internationally recognized borders was also reiterated.

 

The officials have agreed to maintain a permanent and productive interaction on different aspects which concern the Transnistrian issue.
