The head of the Bureau for European Integration held a meeting with representatives from the British Embassy in Chișinău

20th March 2024, Chisinau - During a meeting with representatives from the British Embassy in Chisinau, including Matthew Jordan, Head of Programmes, and Eugeniu Burdelnii, Governance Adviser and Deputy Head of Programmes, Ghenadie Marian, Head of the Bureau for European Integration (BIE), discussed topics related to efficiency and institutional capacity building within the context of Moldova's accession process to the European Union. The meeting occurred on Tuesday, 19 March.

 

The discussion centred on the Bureau's activities considering the new Coordination Mechanism for Moldova's EU accession process, recently ratified by the Government. The participants addressed challenges and requirements for enhancing the Bureau's institutional capacities.

 

Ghenadie Marian presented the BEI's primary priorities for the immediate future, aiming to effectively manage crucial tasks in preparation for accession negotiations. The discussion emphasised the necessity of external technical support to streamline inter-institutional coordination and maintain consistency in the process of Euro-integration.

 

Matthew Jordan, representing the British Embassy in Chisinau, commended the Republic of Moldova for the advancements made in its efforts to join the European Union. He acknowledged the role of the UK's Good Governance Fund in Moldova and highlighted the UK's support for the implementation of the "RESTART" social assistance reform.

 

The participants also reached a consensus to maintain ongoing cooperation and dialogue regarding potential forms of support that the UK Embassy can offer to bolster capacity and ease Moldova's EU accession process.
