13.01.2022, Bender – The delegation of the Republic of Moldova has brought new arguments to the attention of the Joint Control Commission’ participants, revealing the alarming tendency of unilateral increase of armed structures of Tiraspol personnel in the city of Bender, declared by conventions of the pacifying mission as an area with an enhanced security regime.

Thus, on January 11, a group of so-called “border guards” subordinated to the “mgb” in Tiraspol have been observed by the Moldovan police in the proximity of the railway station “Bender-2”. Equipped in uniform, the ”border guards” were hampering free passage of citizens, abusively performing identification documents control on them.

The military observers were requested on sight to document these actions that are contrary to the article 3 of the July 21 1992 Moldo-Russian agreement and some decisions approved at the level of the Joint Control Commission. The representatives of Tiraspol have delayed the procedure of coordination of the military observers’ departure until the “border guards” have left the location in which they were ilegally.

In such circumstances, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova has highlighted the importance of the elaboration of an efficient monitoring mechanism in the Security Zone (a decision set out in the protocol 828 from 2017 and not implemented) and the appreciation of actions of the so-called ”border guards” which destabilize the situation in the area of responsibility of the Mixed Peacekeeping Forces, but the exponents of Tiraspol have opposed including these subjects on the agenda of the meeting.

The co-chairs of the Commission from the Republic of Moldova, Russian Federation and the Transnistrian region, who met separately for additional consultations, have also not reached a consensus.

On the grounds that Tiraspol continues to block the examination of stringent problems on the platform of the Joint Control Commission, without an approved agenda, the ordinary meeting of the Commission has been postponed.
