The first meeting of the working group for fighting crime and for exceptional situations of 2021

02.06.2021, Chisinau – Today, the sectoral experts from both banks of Nistru held an online working group meeting for fighting against crime and for exceptional situations. The meeting was attended by the mediators and observers of the "5+2" negotiations format.
Based on the fact that the last meeting of the experts took place on 3 March 2020, the relaunch of this group’s activity was welcomed and the willingness to maintain an active and effective dialog in the relevant field was expressed.
Discussions at the meeting focused on the current issues and unresolved problems on preventing/managing exceptional situations and combating crime on both banks Nistru. The free movement of persons, means of transport and services throughout the country, as well as Chisinau’s proposal to ensure the access of the inhabitants of Bender municipality and Dubasari district to the unique National Service for 112 emergency calls were also mentioned.
When the experts from Tiraspol brought up the subject of criminal cases, the Moldovan side specified that these files are under the competence of the criminal investigation and justice bodies, while interference in their activity is prohibited by law and implies certain legal responsibility. At the same time, the interested person or his/her defender has the possibility to make use of the procedures prescribed by the legislation in force.
The Moldovan side stressed the indispensability of taking all the possible measures to ensure respect for the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens and to restore access to the region of the employees of law enforcement authorities of the Republic of Moldova in order to carry out the necessary legal measures in accordance with the powers conferred.
