21st May 2024, Brussels, Belgium - Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov participated in the eighth meeting of the EU - Republic of Moldova Association Council as part of the national delegation led by Prime Minister Dorin Recean. This is the first meeting following the European Council's decision in December 2023 to open accession negotiations with our country and the first prepared by the team from the Bureau for European Integration since it assumed its responsibilities in this field.

"We discussed our country's European integration process, the reforms undertaken within the European agenda, and the immediate priorities ahead. Additionally, at Prime Minister Dorin Recean's meeting with Oliver Varhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, we highlighted the steps we will focus on for the next Intergovernmental Conference", stated Cristina Gherasimov after the meeting.

Furthermore, in Brussels today, Prime Minister Dorin Recean signed the Security and Defence Partnership Agreement with the EU, making Moldova the first country to establish such an agreement with the European Union. The second agreement signed on the margins of the Association Council concerns our country's participation in the labour and social policy component of the European Social Fund.

"This will facilitate our access to funds for social policies at home for the benefit of our citizens", said Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov.
