Today, 20 March, a session on Chapter 24, "Justice, Freedom, and Security," part of Cluster 1, "Fundamental Values," is taking place in Brussels.

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, is heading the Moldovan delegation, which includes representatives from the Bureau for European Integration and the Working Group for Chapter 24, coordinated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a substantial team of specialists from public authorities, trained in implementing the acquis for this chapter, is attending the session online.

During the explanatory sessions, experts from the European Commission present the latest legal acts of the EU acquis and respond to clarification questions regarding the information provided and other relevant EU legislation in the field.

These sessions serve as preparatory work for the bilateral screening phase, during which the Republic of Moldova will present its current alignment level with the principles, provisions, and standards of the EU acquis, as well as its plans for future transposition and implementation of the full EU acquis.

In December 2023, the European Council decided to open negotiations on Moldova's accession to the European Union. Subsequently, on 13 March this year, the European Commission submitted a draft Negotiating Framework for Moldova to the European Council for review. Bilateral screening sessions will commence following the approval of the Negotiating Framework by the Moldova-EU Intergovernmental Conference.
