An online meeting at the level of environmental experts from both banks of the Nistru River was held today, February 4, with the participation of the representatives in the "5+2" negotiation format (the last meeting took place on July 9, 2020).
The meeting was coordinated by the head of the working group from Chisinau, State Secretary at the Ministry of Environment, Mrs. Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov.
The agenda of discussions included current issues in the environment area such as the efficient management of water resources from the Nistru River basin, exchange of information in the field of hydrometeorology, the need for coordination of measures regarding water catchments and discharge from/in the Nistru River, coordinating discharged volumes from the Dubasari Hydroelectric Node, monitoring and exchanging data regarding the quality of the surface waters and atmospheric air, including their pollution levels, etc.
At the same time, the need to re-establish free access for representatives of the State Hydrometeorological Service to some hydrometric posts in the Transnistrian region has been emphasized, in order to conduct flow measurements of the Nistru River on a regular basis in order to monitor the hydrological condition of the surface waters and take any necessary action.
Furthermore, the discussions focused on the activities of companies from the Transnistrian region that are registered in the State Registry of Legal Entities, conduct import and export operations, including in EU member countries, and hold licenses from the Republic of Moldova's competent authorities under the provisions of Government Decision 815/2005.
It was emphasized that for these companies to obtain environmental authorization from the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection, unrestricted access of national inspectors on the ground, a qualified assessment of the situation, and verification of process compliance with the rigors established by working legislation and international requirements to which the Republic of Moldova adheres are all required.
