Exhibition "30 Years of the Republic of Moldova's Progress Towards the European Union" at the National Library in Chisinau
8th May 2024, Chisinau - "30 Years of the Republic of Moldova's Progress Towards the European Union" marks the title of the exhibition unveiled today at the National Library in Chisinau, organized in celebration of Europe Days 2024.
The exhibition showcases a diverse array of publications, documents, photographs, and other informative materials delineating the inception of cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union. Spanning from the signing of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement in 1994 to the present day, it underscores the evolution of relations, culminating in the Republic of Moldova's attainment of candidate country status for EU membership.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished guests including the Head of the European Union Delegation in Chisinau, Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks, the State Secretary for European Integration, Rodica Crudu, and the State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Andrei Chistol.
In her address, State Secretary Rodica Crudu emphasized the significance of Moldova's accession to the European Union, accentuating the manifold benefits and investment and assistance initiatives extended by the EU to our country. Additionally, she reaffirmed that the European integration of the Republic of Moldova constitutes not merely an economic aspiration, but also a project fostering peace and security.
"As a nation, we are steadfast in our trajectory towards a realm that prioritizes peace above all, for the European Union was conceived as a bastion of peace, security, and prosperity, and over the span of 70 years, it has demonstrated its ability to uphold these principles. Thus, for the Republic of Moldova, European integration represents a blueprint for peace and security. Amidst the current regional context, characterized by uncertainties, peace and security stand as paramount prerequisites for fostering a prosperous future and enhancing the quality of life for our citizens".
Rodica Crudu also underscored the pivotal role of libraries in disseminating and elucidating the core values of the European Union and the advantages of European integration. The official accentuated the collaborative endeavours of governmental bodies and other stakeholders engaged in Moldova's journey towards EU accession, while also urging citizens to actively participate and contribute towards advancing this nationally strategic objective.
The exhibition will be accessible to the general public from 8th May to 31st May 2024, as part of the Europe Days 2024 initiative. During this period, the National Library of the Republic of Moldova intends to host a series of events aimed at fostering awareness among Moldovan citizens regarding the European integration process and the potential benefits of EU accession.
