The situation regarding the conducting of the educational process in all its dimensions in the 8 Romanian-language schools in the Transnistrian region is held under permanent control both by the Ministry of Education and Research and the Bureau for Policies of Reintegration, including the aspect of the necessity to enhance its attractiveness in the region.
Regarding the evolution of the number of students, we observe that during the last 5 years the total number of students in the eight schools is in a constant slight increase, a comparison of numbers showing 1341 students for the academic year 2016-2017 and 1650 for 2021-2022.
The formation of an overview of the subject can be assessed from the figures shown in the attached graphic form.
The evolution mentioned before is a consequence of the rise in attractiveness of the educational process offered according to the working legislation, the quality of the conducted studies and the perspective to continue education at the next levels in high-performing and prestigious institutions in the country and abroad, the constant support from the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the continuous investments in the development of the young generation, including attracting support from relevant foreign donors.
Although in the last years the number of students is in a slight increase, this dynamic is insignificant compared to the academic year 2004-2005 (3787 students) or 1998-1999 (5619), which means that the periods of crisis and exerting premeditated pressure by Tiraspol have left a significant negative mark and it cannot be associated only to the demographic and migration tendencies specific to the area.
It is necessary to understand that the situation with the small number of students is connected to the problem of the lack of own premises along with the adjacent terrains, fit to the current needs and with corresponding infrastructure. This aspect has a strategic importance, but remains currently unsolved and without sizable progress for reasons independent of Chisinau, despite ceaseless insistence in all negotiation formats with Tiraspol, who does not show interest and is cancelling relevant discussions on this subject for years.
